SSP Handwara Gh Jeelani wani has appealed people not to take law into their own hands and handover the suspects if caught anywhere to Police as last night have the locals of Khanoo Babagund done.  Addressing a press conference SSP Handwara Gh. Jeelani Wani while appreciating the locals of Khanoo Langate said that this must set a precedence for others as it would be if it the public and administration alike. SSP said that the man caught by people of Khanoo Babagund Kralgund while roaming suspiciously in the said village and took him as braid chopper. But the people without taking law and order into their own hands called the police immediately and handed over him to police station and cooperated patiently in ascertaining the facts and reason of his being in the village. The particulars of the alleged braid chopper were found to be Mohd Yousuf Khan S/o Wali Rehman Khan R/o Anwarabad Mohalla Sulkoot Kupwara. During enquiry from some respectables of Sulkoot and Police Post Bazaar Kupwara regarding the subject ,it was found that the said person is Ex -armyman who has been dismissed from army on medical grounds after he had developed some mental health problems and was declared mentally unfit some 8 years ago. After loosing his job and his mental health, his wife also left him and his condition further detoriated and he start wandering from one village to another village. Thus it became clear that the alleged was not a braid chopper but an insane who doesn’t know where to go and where to stay. It was because of the people of Khanoo that a major tragedy like that of Mazbugh sopore where one mentally unsound person was ruthlessly beaten to pulp was averted. *Naeem Akhtar speaks up, asks others to speak up..*
*Says Sopore incident bone chilling, worst poster of Kashmiriyat..*
SRINAGAR ÷ Senior PDP leader and Works Minister Naeem Akhtar Friday broke his silence about the increasing incidents of braid chopping.
In a long Facebook post, he said: “Whether braid chopping is real or hysterical, physical or psychological one thing has become clear, we as a people are the worst posters of what we claim to be-Kashmiris or Muslims.”
Akhtar further posted: “Neither Kashmir’s ethos nor the teachings of the religion that we claim to be following allows, much less recommend the kind of behaviour that we display.”
He was referring to the incident of Sopore where a mentally challenged man was beaten up on the suspicion for being a braid chopper.
Akhtar added: “The political position from where I operate currently would obviously invite questions about my own role. But that will only be an argument. It won’t solve the problem. Neither would arguing resolve the severe moral crisis facing us. It is a millstone around OUR neck and we alone can and must throw it away. You, me and every Kashmiri.”
He said, “No braid chopper has been apprehended so far. But numerous innocent persons have become the victims of our collective criminal behaviour. The Sopore incident, bone chilling as it is, is only the latest. We are only proving those people right who want us painted black. Having reached here in our disastrous moral descent we will need no one to argue against us. And of course no one can argue in our favour too. Unless we introspect and speak up. SPEAKUP”.(Muzaffar Khan Srinagar)
